BIO

Joan Canyelles (b. Pòrtol, 1987) is an spanish artist currently living in Mallorca (Balearic Islands)

His practice explores the intricate interplay between visual depictions of language, communication, and territory delving into historical archives from typography, graphism, cartography, and astronomy. By exploring the interconnectedness of these fields Canyelles’ work establishes a distinctive visual identity through a reductive approach to shape, color and texture. His works extend across diverse mediums including painting, sculpture, photography and installation.

Among his exhibitions we find “Prender la mirada” at Casal Solleric (2024), TDC68 annual exhibition at the The Cooper Union Gallery in New York (2022) and the TDC68 annual exhibition at NPO Japan Typography Association in Tokio (2022), (Silenci!) at TACA (2021), the site-specific installation Melilla at IncArt (2017), P2P White Wall PhotoEspaña (2015), Amateurs at The Folio Club Barcelona (2015) and Amateurs photobook exhibition at SCAN Tarragona (2014).
